Special festival editions

These colourful issues are something to look forward to.

FOR THE VORACIOUS READER: With exclusive inputs

Deepavali down south is not complete without the special editions of periodicals such as Kalki, Anada Vikatan. The bulky issues are already on the stands with attractive features. Kalki's cover, a beautiful illustration of Veda, depicts the story of saint poet Namadeva. The article has been written by Thukaram Ganapathy, sampradaya bhajan expert and a devotee of Panduranga. Exquisite pictures on the concept of Shanmatham dot the pages of the issue that has all the usual features such as jokes and snippets.

There is a special picture feature on the Lalgudi temple supported by the paintings of Maruti, Veda, Thamarai and Maniam Selvan. The edition, priced at Rs. 100, includes Gokuam Pages, a section for children.

Tinsel flavour

Deviating from a long tradition Ananda Vikatan sports a glamorous cover — a picture of actor Asin. The tinsel flavour continues inside too with comedian Vadivelu making a tour of the journal's office, a meet with young singers and so on. College girls catch up with politician-turned actor Vijaykanth at the shooting spot.

Rajat speaks to Nirmal Shekar, sports reporter of The Hindu. The correspondent, a Wimbledon regular, shares some memorable moments that have distinguished his long career. A picture feature captures the splendour of Chettinad house. An interview with Tamil writer, K.Rajnarayan, a feature on the Pondicherry Mother, poems and interesting short stories make the issue (Rs. 99) eminently readable.

Dedicated to the Sringeri Math, ``Amman Darisanam" has articles on the Acharyas, whose pictures adorn the pages, messages from them and events linked to the math.
