Impressive vocal recital
Sri Vijaya Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabhaorganised a recital of the septuagenarian vocalist Vinjamuri Lakshmi in the premises of Sri Sankaramatham last Monday.
Her recital at Sankaramatham, the visible struggle with her none-too cooperative voice, she successfully sustained audience interest from the word go starting with the rendering of the Thyagaraja Pancharatnakriti in Arabhi Sadhinchene till the rendering of Mangalam. Crystal clear clarity intoning the lyrical phraseology conspicuously coupled with an orthodox effort delving deep into the subtle expressions embedded in them marked the recital. Elaboration of Appa Ramabhakti (Pantuvarali) and Paramatmudu Velige (Vaagadheeswari) besides the evocative rendering of compositions of Ramadas and Annamayya towards the end stood out for the scholarly effort. Violinist Komanduri Krishnamacharyulu contributed by bringing out innovative sketches of raga and swara in his turn. Mangalagiri Sridhar delighted.
