Rich in repertoire

Sowmya Srinivasan impressed the audience with her style.

Hyderabad Music Circle, serving in the field of classical music to encourage young talent, featured talented singer Sowmya Srinivasan in an absorbing concert held at Thyagaraya

Gana Sabha's A.C.Hall. Thyagaraya Ganasabha has co-sponsored this programme.

Sowmya belongs to the lineage of disciples of Muthaiah Bgavatar, known for creativity, tradition and chaste style. Another notable feature is the rich repertoire that she possesses, which is the essence of Carnatic music.

She began her concert with Mohana Varnam in two speeds, followed by a rare invocation.

Vinayaka Vighnavinasaka in Chakravakam, marked by excellent swaras that she rendered with ease. She chose Natakuranji as her first raga delineation for this concert. She presented it well and sang Naa Cheyyi Viduvakura of Mysore Vasudevachar in this. The rendition of the kirtana was marked by good literary flavour. Telisi Ramachintana in Poornachandrika was another impressive number that she sang with good composure and musical sense. Then came Sriranjani as a fine essay, which she filled with beautiful phrases, reflecting her erudition. Bhuvini Dasudani in this had variegated swaras. Her Mariveregati in Ananda Bhairavi had melodic lilt, again reflecting her sense for beauty. Latangi was essayed later for Marivere Dikkevvaru of Patnam. The show piece of the concert, however, was Thodi. She packed the melody with popular and refreshing moves as well, displaying her rich imagination. Thyagaraja's Dasaradhi, a rare one was her choice in this.

The piece attained wholesome appeal with a neraval and exemplifying swara structures she presented with ease.

The latter part of her concert was marked by a bhajan, Govardhana Giridhari, in Darbari Kaanada and Dhanasri Tillana. N.C. Ananta Krishna on violin and Kapa Srinivasa Rao on mridangam lent good support.
