Cultural festival

Bharat Sangeet Utsav, Carnatica's annual music festival opens on November 1 at the Narada Gana Sabha, 4 p.m., with the nagaswaram recital of Seshampatti Sivalingam.

The guests of honour at the inauguration of the nine-day festival are Durai Murugan, Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works and N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu and president, the Music Academy.

A host of artistes, veterans and the young, North and South, will perform and the list includes M.Balamuralikrishna, S.Sowmya, Ranjani-Gayathri, Ronu Majumdar and Sanjeev Abhyankar.

Hindustani and Carnatic will find a meeting point as musicians present jugalbandi.

The programme includes a symposium on November 4, a discussion on November 5, a Kathakali performance by Kalamandalm Harikrishnan and a Bharatanatyam presentation by Shobana.

The curtain comes down with a Sangeeta Upanyasam on Bhadrachala Ramdas by Visakha Hari.
