Awards for artistes

The Nungambakkam Cultural Academy Trust, Chennai, will be celebrating its 37th anniversary for 41 days with a fine arts festival beginning December 4 at Rama Rao Kala Mantap auditorium.

On the inaugural day, the following artistes will be honoured with the Kala Siromani Awards. Each award carries a citation, a gold medallion and a purse of Rs. 10,000.

Carnatic Music - Sangeetha Kala Siromani - T. V. Sankaranarayanan; Kuchipudi - Nrithya Kala Siromani - Dr. Vempatti Chinna Satyam; Tamil theatre - Nataka Kala Siromani - A.R.Srinivasan.

From this year onwards, three more persons will be conferred with `NCA Excellence Award' on New Year Day. Each award includes a citation, a gold medallion and a purse of Rs. 5,000.

The following are to be honoured this year: Carnatic music - O.S.Arun; Exponent in upanyasam - Jayarama Sarma; Tamil theatre - Kovai Padmanabhan.
