Vani Jairam honoured
MEMORABLE MOMENT: Vani Jairam receiving the `Meera Award' from Narpath Singh, Minister for Industries, Rajasthan. P.L.Agarwal, Collector of Chittagaurh, looks on.
At the Meera Utsav celebrated by Meera Smruti Sansthan, Rajasthan Jilla Collectorate and Western Zone Cultural Centre, Chittagaurh, recently, Vani Jairam was honoured with Meera Samman Puraskar, for her contribution to the popularising of Meera bhajans, here and abroad. The Meera Award, which Narpath Singh, Minister for Industries, Rajasthan, presented to Vani Jairam, comprised a plaque, a citation and a cash award of Rs. 5,100. The function was followed by Vani's bhajan recital at 10 p.m. one that was well received by the 20,000-odd audience gathered at the venue.
"This is a very important honour in my career as it was presented to me at the very place where Meerabai lived, prayed, composed and sang," says Vani Jairam.
Meera Mandir, located within the Chittaurgarh Fort, is the temple where Meera had actually worshipped Krishna and sung the bhajans she had composed. It was here that Vani Jairam presented Meera bhajans on the morning of the function, which was presided over by P. L. Agarwal, Collector of Chittagaurh.
