Of songs and verses

P. SURYA RAO

Singers competed with one another in rendering devotional compositions.

A competition of rendering songs on Lord Siva was arranged by Siva Deeksha Seva Mandali at Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram, Vijayawada. The programme was a huge success with the participation of a large number of singers; vocal vidwan Modumudi Sudhakar was the judge. The prizes went to G. Sambasiva Rao (first), M.S. Siva Babu (second) and M. Sivakartika (third). K. Susmita and V. Srikanya received consolation prizes.

A highlight of the evening's programme was Gudipati Harikshishna's rendering of a number of songs in praise of Lord Siva. Some songs he rendered with devotional involvement were Neelakandhara Rava, Kaanaravu Kailasa Nivasa, Mahesa Papavinasa and Siva Sankari.
