An evening of melody

It turned out to be the founder-president Chandrasekhar's nite as the repertoire had songs set to music by him.

COMPOSER'S DAY Artistes rendering Chandrasekhar's tunes.

Celebrating the 14th anniversary of Kalaasravanthi, a cultural organisation, presented Lalitha Sangeetha Vibhavari in the VJF Press Club hall last Wednesday.

It turned out to be the founder president Chandrasekhar's nite as the repertoire had songs set to music by him. Known for his flair for composing music and singing, he got the opportunity of assisting and later working as an associate of stalwart music directors in cine field like Chakravarthi, late Ghantasala and Ramesh Naidu. Under whom he provided music for more than a score of feature films in Telugu.

Then again by choice, he got the job of Grade-I music composer of Akashvani Studios at Visakhapatnam in which he continues to work. It again turned out to be the effect of the tunes that kept the audience keenly engrossed in the recital.

Ghazals rendered by Chandrasekhar, Maa Teluguthalli and Okaveeniyalo Raagaalam rendered melodiously in good synchrony in group by D.V.L. Padmapriya, T. Vijayalakshmi, P. Suryaprabha, K. Sobha, GAN Atreya, Lakshmiprasanna, Madhavi, K. Lakshminarayanamma, Y. Sudhakar Gupta, S. Meenakshi, Ayesha Begum, S. Indira Bharadwaj, Dora, Ch.V.V. Ramanaswamy, K. Nagina and Ch. Sandhya and the solos rendered one each by them stood out appealing in that order.

Recitation of Sweeya kavithalu by Sobha, Suryaprabha and K. Lakshminarayanamma including the compering by Suryaprabha that went poetic were special attractions. Doyen of the theatre S.K. Misro and businessman Khasim Mehdhi who were guests of honour presented mementos to all the singers and to Siva who lent support on tabla.
