The woman's voice on display
MULTI-LAYERED HISTORY There are 1,200 posters on display
An exhibition of posters from the Women's Movement in India is on at the Karnataka Chitrkala Parishath. Called Poster Women, conceived by Zubaan, the publishing house, features a selection of posters "created for particular campaigns".
The women's movement in India has produced hundreds of wonderful, colourful images and messages to support the many causes such as violence against women, rape, dowry, health services and gender sensitive laws, say the organisers.
There is a display of 1,200 posters at this show, which have been collected from all over the country, coordinating with 200 organisations. The exhibition has travelled to Berlin, Bonn and Frankfurt before coming to Bangalore. It will from here go to Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Zubaan's aim is to document and preserve a different history of the movement and address the new and important question of using visual sources as ways of understanding history.
The show, conceived and coordinated by Zubaan, is on till November 14.
