EDUCATIVE: Twin albums for students.
Geethanjali has released two DVDs on Bharatanatyam — Madura Margam and Navasandhi Kauthuvam. The well-trained disciples of dance exponent guru Sudharani Raghupathy, including Priya Murle, Shylaja Ramji, Aruna Subbaiah, Priya Dixit and T.M.Sridevi and Padma Raghavan, have presented the songs, both group and solo.
The first, containing the compositions of the late Madurai Krishnan, is a typical course a traditional presentation will take, beginning with Ranganjali and concluding with a tillana and mangalam.
The second is a package of nine numbers in different talas, choreographed by the Thanjavur Quartette.
With introduction and illustration the twin albums are educative and will be immensely useful for students of Bharatanatyam.
Priya Murle has performed the nattuvangam while Nandini Anand takes care of the vocals. K.S.R.Anirudha is on the mridangam and S. Vijayaraghavan plays the violin. Coordination and direction have been handled by S.Muthukumar.
