Nutshell

Honour for musicians

Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust, T. Nagar (Ph: 2433 6504) will honour T. K. Govinda Rao with the Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Award, comprising a cash award of Rs. 10,000 and a gold medal, on November 24, 5 p.m. at Srinivasa Sastri Hall, Luz. Senior musicians' cash awards will be presented to Seetharama Sharma, Shyamala Venkateswaran, Tiruvarur Balam and Dindigul Ramamurthy. Youth Excellence awards will be presented to Akkarai Subbulakshmi and Trivandrum Balaji. N. Viswanath, P.S. Narayanaswamy and T.S.Sivakolundu will take part and felicitate the awardees.

Anniversary

Rukmini Arts & Music Trust, will celebrate is 10th anniversary on November 26, 5.15 p.m., at Ragasudha Hall, Luz, Mylapore. K.V.Ramanathan, Editor, Sruthi, will preside over the function and Dr. Pappu Venugopal Rao will be the chief guest.

Musician Prof. B. Krishnamoorthy, violinist Coimbatore B. Dakshinamurthy and musicologist Pappu Venugopal Rao will be felicitated on the occasion. The programme will be followed by a vocal recital of Sreevalson Menon at 6.30 p.m.

Presentation

Violin duo M. Lalitha and M. Nandini will present Devi kshetra kritis with a multimedia presentation, along with Sridharan Shankar of Australia and Pudukkottai Ramachandran. It has been organised by Kartik Fine Arts in association with Sri Krishna Sweets at Dakshinamurthy auditorium on November 26, 6.45 p.m. About 20 selected kshetras will be taken for presentation. Voluntary service

Art festival

The Mylapore Fine Arts Club is celebrating its 55th art festival, to be inaugurated on December 13. Programmes till the concluding day (January 15, 2007) will be free for members.

Title for vocalist

Gana Mukundha Priya is organising an awards function on November 29 at Narada Gana Sabha. Mr. N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, presides and confers the title, `Ganamukundha Shara' on R. Suryaprakash.

Maha yagnam

Athi Rudra Maha Yagnam, will be performed at Sringeri from November 30 to December 11. Contributions for the yagnam may be drawn in favour of Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri — a/c Athi Rudram Corpus Fund, and sent to Sringeri Sharada Seva Sangam, Old No. 19/4, (new no. 12/4), Sadulla Street, Rams Flat, T. Devotional album

Guruvayur Dorai Trust (Ph: 2464 2233; 94444 55012) has organised the launch of `Sabariyil Shruthi,' a devotional album rendered by Shruthi Jayashankar, on December 1, 5.30 p.m., at Ragasudha Hall, 85/2, Luz Avenue. T. S. Krishnamurthy, former chief election commissioner, will be the chief guest and receive the first copy, to be released by Nalli Kuppusami Chetti.
