Why not a Mali foundation?

Sir, — The article, `Breath of Almighty' (Friday Review, November 10) contained many aspects of the great musician Mali, a genius for all times to come. It should be our endeavour to pool all his available music and preserve it for posterity. Why not a Mali Foundation? Sure, it would receive massive encouragement.

The expectant large crowd of rasikas at Calicut had been waiting for over three hours for the concert to start. The secretary of the sabha had been using all tricks — cajoling, coaxing and even threatening to make the indulgent Mali proceed to the sabha from the beach. When he did arrive at around 11 p.m., everything was forgotten. The crowd went home most reluctantly at 2 a.m., ecstatic and prepared to wait for eternity, for yet another chance to hear him.

V. Balakrishnan,
Chennai.
