A semi-classical fare

Mekhala Biswas presents `Shyamasangeet' for music buffs in town.

Born in Kolkata, Mekhala Biswas is an arts graduate of Calcutta University and a post graduate in Hindustani Classical sangeet, Allahabad University. Mekhala Biswas learnt music from a very early age from several gurus at different stages. Her gurus include Pt. Gopal Biswas, Pt. T.L. Rana, and Pt. Giridhar Prasad Jaipurwale. Besides teaching, she has performed both in India and overseas and continues to do so till date.

Her overseas solo performances include a two-hour ghazal solo at Muscat, a two-hour bhajan solo at the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago , bhajan recitals on the occasion of Janmashtami at the Krishna Temple of Muscat and the ISKCON Temple of Chicago in successive years and others.

In the city, she presents Shyamasangeet at Bharat Sevasram every year on the occasion of Kal Puja and Navaratri Bhajans at Adarshnagar. She along with her students have performed at the Ramakrishna Mutt on several occasions.

Mekhala Biswas has also officiated as the chief judge at the Annual Dance and Music Competition organised by the Indian Cultural Society of Oman at Muscat. Tonight she presents a selection of semi-classical Hindustani and Bangla Sangeet.
