MARVELLOUS FEAT: Kalamandalam Radhika's depiction of poems was marked by clarity of mudras and expressions.
Veteran Mohiniyattom danseuse Kalamandalam Radhika captivated an audience in Kochi as she depicted her interpretation of select poems in Sanskrit, Kannada and Malayalam.
Her performance started with an invocation to the gods. The `cholkettu' in Amruthavarshini and Hamirkalyani ragas saw her movements blending with the music. Her style was marked by clarity of mudras and expressions. `Kanaakenam,' a poem by Chavara Kuriakose, saw the vatsalya of a mother who narrates the story of Christ to her child and finally sees the manifestation of the Lord in the child.
The Kannada poet Koovempu's poem, which presents the yearning of love in the backdrop of rain and nature, was another delightful piece. Radhika brought out the flavour of Shankaracharaya's `Bhajagovindam' by improvising on the line `balasthavat kreedasakthah.' She put to use the popular `panthattam' and the game of golis.
Subtle expressions
In a beautiful composition in Bageshri raga, Kamala Suraiyya's `Krishna nee kinavallennu,' was brought to life with subtle body language and expressions. A marvellous feat in dance, the event proved to be a treat for rasikas.
The Swati Tirunal tillana in Kalyani raga glowed with grace and had movements from Kerala Natanam and Kaikottikali in the broad gait and swirls. The programme was organised by Kerala Fine Arts Society and Nrithya Dhara.
