Sprightly and delightful display of Bharatanatyam

Youngsters brought out the nuances with their dance dramas.

Sprightly footwork, graceful movements, sculpturesque finish in posture with clarity in mudra and facial expression marked the dance performances forthe 51st anniversary at the Visakha Dance Academy on Friday last at Kalabharathi.
Venkateswara Rao who after initiation into classical dance by his father Satyanarayana, had full-fledged training under Venugopala Rao at Chennai.
Soon, he established a school, Uma Maheswara Nritya Niketan which won many laurels by staging dance ballets not just in Visakhapatnam but across the country..
He married his disciple Lakshmi who helped him in all his endeavours in 1961 and rechristened the school as Visakha Dance Academy.
The items presented by children in the age group of 5 and 9, Vinayaka Kautham by Pabri Bose, Sanjana, Harshitha and Nitya, Alaripu by Katya, Kaisibhanni by Ruchika, compositions of Annamayya, Edutanunnadu by Harshitha and Srimannarayana in particular by Chaitra and Vaisakhi stood out.
Jathiswaram and a thillana by Radhika and Tirumala followed by a composition of Ramdas by Radhika in particular and Ashtapadhi Priyechaaruseele by Sankar carried the mood.
Mridangam solo of six minutes by M. Krishna Vamsi was a special attraction.
Vocals by Dwaram Thyagaraju in the company of Y. Neeladri Rao on violin, Vamsi's father Edukondalu on mridangam, T. Atchutha Rao on flute and nattuvangam in turns by Lakshmi and Sankar Mahanti's contributed to the show.
Presenting mementoes, Viswanath rendered a point-by-point analysis of the show and made a mention of Radhika's portrayal of Sabari who transliterated the lyrics of Ramdas into dance vocabulary.
