Karlapalem Chandramouli presented memorable renditions.
|
Karlapalem Chandramouli of Kurnool is a seasoned vocalist and a veteran in his `80s. Yet he maintains good vocal range, strength and melody. He is a retired principal of the Government College of Music, Kurnool. As a teacher he displays erudition in etching ragas. His concert last week for Sangeetha Ksheerasagara Sabha was held at Thygaraya Gana Sabha in the company of veteran Komanduri Seshadri on violin and Aravind on mridangam. R.V. Panduranga Sarma, a young vocalist, accompanied the the veteran to give him relief now and then.
After a Saveri Varnam and invocation of Mahaganapatim in Gowla, Chandramouli went for Poorvikalyani essay for Gjnanamosagaraada along with a well-chiselled swaraprasthara. Then there was a rare raga, Vanaspati. Pariyachakama in this was rendered with good literary expression.
Kambhoji was the major showpiece of the concert, which showcased his scholarship. This was more of a textbook expression. Sri Raghuvaraaprameya too stood out for its scholarly exposition of the Neraval and Swara intricacies. Komanduri Seshadri, a seasoned vocalist himself and retired Principal of Government Music College gave apt support on violin. S. Arvind on mridangam showed his mettle in his turn in his Tani avartanam.
