Music competition
SHI-BA Sangeetha Sabha in association with Meenakshi Rajagopal Cultural Trust will conduct music competitions for those between the 10-20 age group. The competition, organised in connection with the Tyagaraja Aradhana Day (Jan 8), will be held at 59/70, Thirumangalam Road, Villiwakkam, December 30.
The contestants will have to render bhajans, devotional songs, kirtanams on Lord Rama only. Entry and registration fee is Rs. 25 each. For details contact 94440 10215.
Special homam
A New year special homam for Sri Sahasra Lingam starting with Ganapati homam, Navagraha homam, Havahanthi Homam and Sri Maha Mruthyunjaya homam will be performed on January 1 from 8.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Chennai Om Sri Skandasramam, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Tambaram, For details call 2229 0134/94446 29570. Nadopasana will feature Harikatha to be rendered by Visakha Hari on January 1, 6.30 p.m. and Udayalur Kalyanarama Bhagavatar on January 2, 6.30 p.m. at Dakshinamurthy Auditorium, P.S.H.S. School, R.K.Mutt Road, Mylapore.
Anniversary
Apoorva Ragam, the monthly magazine on music and dance, will celebrate its fifth year anniversary on January 1 at Maharashtra Nivas, 219, TTK Road, Alwarpet. Renowned artistes will be honoured with titles on the occasion. K. R. Saranathan - Isai Sudaroli; P. V. Parameshwaran - Isai Sudaroly; Sasikiran - Isai Sudaroli; Rajalakshmi Srinivasan - Isai Sudaroli; Sobana Ramesh - Natya Sudaroli; Nirmal Rajasekar - Veena Sudaroli. Veena festival
The Veena Foundation (ph: 011-26412835), in collaboration with Sanatana Sangeet Sanskriti, New Delhi, Samrat Club International, Goa, and Tarangam Arts Foundation, Bangalore, is celebrating the National Festival of Veena on December 30-31 at Tattvaloka, 76, Eldams Road, Teynampet, 2-9 p.m. The Veena Foundation Award will be presented to R. Visveswaran on the inaugural day at 5 p.m. Justice Karpaga Vinayakam, Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, will be the chief guest and Chitraveena Ravikiran will present the Scroll of Honour.
