Befitting beginning to a valedictory

Artistes set up lilting rhythm and tempo.

A short vocal recital by Kasturi Kamala Deepti, AIR artiste (veena and vocal) marked the beginning of the valedictory of the year-long diamond jubilee celebration of Sri Vijaya Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha last Tuesday in Kalabharathi. Accompanied on violin by M. Neeladri Rao and mridangam by M. Yedukondalu , she evolved a thrilling tempo rendering Sri Vighnarajambhaje (Gambhira Nata), Mariveredikkevarayya (Shanmukhapriya) with swaram, elaboration of Neevera Kuladhanamu (Begada) and a composition of Purandharadasain Suddhadhanyasi.

Then after presentation of the valedictory address young musicians were felicitated. Mridangam artiste K. Sadguru Charan is also known for his talent of laya feat Panchamukhi was the first to be honoured with the award of the diamond jubilee gold medal. While Kasturi Kamaladeepti and M. Neeladri Rao (violinist) followed suit receiving the annual awards (gold medals) of the sabha instituted in memory of its past presidents Alahari Singari and Durvasula Bhagavanulu, A. Ananda Srihari who stood first in the national competitions in mridangam conducted by AIR this year was also felicitated.Recital by noted vocalist Pantula M. Rama in the company of her husband M. Srinivasa Narasimha Murty (AIR staffer) on violin and Sadguru Charan on mridangam proved to be the grand finale of the evening.

Evolving a gripping tenor and tempo from the word go with the rendering of Ramabhaktisaamrajyam (Suddhabangala), she sustained it rendering Nannu vidachi (Reethigoula) with aalapana and Bantureethikoluvu (Hamsanaadam) with neravu and swaram till she concluded with an elaboration of Naajeevaadhara (Bilhari) and she enthralled all alike in the auditorium.
