In the name of justice

VIJAY GEORGE

Mammootty plays a vigilante in `Mayavi.'

FULL-FLEDGED ENTERTAINER: Mammootty in `Mayavi.'

He fights injustice. He is known by many a name but one of them stuck - `Mayavi.'

Mammootty dons the role of Mayavi in this movie that is being shot in Kochi. Under the direction of Shafi, who has also directed the actor in `Thommanum Makkalum,' the day's shooting is in an old building in the FACT complex, which has been turned into the interiors of a jail.

Cinematographer Sanjeev Sankar has gone for a trolley shot to zoom in on Mahi, the character played by Mammootty, who is inmate 555. Among his fellow inmates are Manoj K. Jayan, Mamukoya, Keerikkadan Jose, Narayanankutty and Sagar Shiyas.

Storyline

"Mahi is not a criminal. He cannot stand injustice. He often takes the fall for his friends, and is a familiar face in prison. He is known to give wrongdoers a taste of their own medicine," narrates Shafi.

Mammootty, who will soon appear in Amam Neerad's `Big B,' says `Mayavi' is a full-fledged entertainer with a couple of serious moments.

Gopika plays Indu, an educated villager, while Manoj K. Jayan plays a bank employee who is found guilty of fraud. The crew and stars gather around Manoj for music sessions as the actor belts out a song or two.

The scenes being shot during the post-lunch session are in a hospital ward. `Bad guys' Vijayaraghavan, `Spadikam' George, P. Sreekumar and Santosh Jogi are seen in bandages as they lie on adjacent beds. They complain about having been beaten up by an unknown person.

The film boasts a huge star cast that includes Sai Kumar, Cochin Haneefa, Salim Kumar and KPAC Lalitha.

The writer-director duo Rafi and Mecartin have scripted the movie which is being produced under the banner of Vaisakha films by P. Rajan. Lyrics by Vayalar Sarat Chandra Varma have been set to tune by Alex Paul. Stills are by Sunil Guruvayoor. `Mayavi' will hit the theatres in February.
