The `Baabul' disappointment

Hema Malini is miffed over her portrayal in Baabul. Though the film was centred on Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji, Hema cannot fathom why she had such a short role to play. Reportedly, she made her disappointment obvious to Ravi Chopra. After Baghban, she felt the audience would have been let down to see her in an insubstantial role.

Release dates and reshuffles

With Guru and Salaam-e-Ishq releasing this month, most other films have rescheduled their releases. Madhur Bhandarkar's Traffic Signal, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Eklavya and the Shilpa Shetty-starrer Metro are expected in February. Eklavya marks the return of Chopra as a director after Mission Kashmir and stars Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan and Jackie Shroff.

Sarika and Naseer impress

A true-to-life film that shows the aftermath of the communal riots in Gujarat won many hearts at international film festivals. The film, Parzania, directed by Rahul Dholakia, is set to release in India on January 26. The film has Sarika and Naseeruddin Shah as a Parsi couple. The film is based on a real life incident and was screened at the Pusan International Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival and International Film Festival of Kerala.

Shabana returns

February will also see the release of Honeymoon Travels Private Limited, a quirky movie that brings Shabana Azmi as Nadir and Boman Irani as Oscar. In the film, the couple is on a second honeymoon to put their past behind and search for a future together. Shabana, who was seen in serious films like 15 Park Avenue and Umrao Jaan last year, looks forward to this light-hearted comedy.
