The Hubli-based Shantala Academy of Music and Dance has brought out its first audio CD of eight songs penned by prominent Kannada poets.
Addressing presspersons, the founder chairperson of the Academy, Shantala Vattam, said poems by H.S. Venkatesh Murthy, D.S. Karki, N.S. Lakshminarayana Bhatta, Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Doddarange Gowda and Rudra Murthy Shastry have been set to music in the CD "Hrudayaa nataraladali."
Shantala, a disciple of Gangubai Hangal, rendered all the eight songs and also directed the music. Popular music director and singer Raju Ananthaswamy has scored the background music.
Shantala, who has a master's degree in Carnatic vocal music, said Nagathihalli Chandrashekar would formally release the CD at a function to be held in Hubli on January 6.
She said the Academy has plans to bring out at least two audio CDs every year. "Good response from audience during live concerts has encouraged me to come out with CDs," she said.
Raju Ananthaswamy and Dr. Doddarange Gowda, who were present on the occasion, said they were confident that "Hrudayaantaraladali," would turn out to be one of popular bhavageethe collections.
