One-man show -- Veerasamy

To the list of films that have suffered from wrong choice of the hero joins Veerasamy. Vijaya T. Rajendar returns as hero, again it is the story of unrequited love Mumtaz being his sweetheart, as an MLA who rushes to the rescue of the people in his constituency. The first half of the film is devoted to his daring acts that are beyond the scope of imagination.

In the second half he is eager to help Mumtaz, who is married to his archrival. Not that the film is devoid of good aspects but they are nullified with Rajendar as the hero.

The glamour element

Mumtaz, on the other hand, has scope to act and shows her histrionics in scenes of pathos and sentiment. But then the glamour element has more than its share of dolls — Meghna Naidu, daughter of the villain and Sheila, sister of the hero. Agish, incidentally, is the second hero. The cast includes familiar names such as M.S.Bhaskar, Alex, Pandu, Muthukalai, Charuhasan, Madan Bob and Vennira Adai Murthy.

It was interesting to learn that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu wanted to know how many songs the film had. The answer is 11, five of which have been sung by Rajendar (three solo). `Oru Vennilavu' sung by Prasanna and Amrutha is easily the best followed by Hello rendered by Chimpu in the company of Prem. No prizes for guessing the composer. Rajendar of course, who has also written the story, screenplay, dialogue and lyrics apart from cranking the camera and directing the film.

S.R.ASHOK KUMAR
