Bringing emotions to life

A. RAMALINGA SASTRY

Sri Ambikeswara Kuchipudi Dance and Music Academy celebrated its silver jubilee recently.

SHEER FINESSE Students presented a veritable fare.

Performances by the pupils of Sri Ambikeswara Kuchipudi Dance and Music Academy marked its silver jubilee celebrations at Kalabharati last week.

The evening started with a religious offering with pushpanjali in amrithavarshini by D. Bharati and Srija, which was followed by Vinayakastuti (hamsadhvani) by Master M. Ganeswar, Purvangam in raagamalika by C. Sandhya and Utukkad's Vighnarajambhaje in gambhira nata by Manogna and Mahathi.

The academy was established by P. Bharani Sankar, a noted Kuchipudi exponent and son of the renowned Kuchipudi guru P.V. Narasimha Rao, in 1982.

The first half of the programme also had delectable dances, Jathiswaram in athana by Lakshmi Niharika, Manogna, Preethi and Siri, Annamayya's Alarulukuriyaga by Spandana, Adigo Alladigo by Subhapriya and Brahmakadigina Paadamu by Niharika and Preethi, besides Paramapurusha of Swathi Tirunal by Anusha.

A Devaranama of Purandhara Dasa in abhogi followed by Adi Sankara's Madhurashtakam in raagamalika, Sankara Srigirinadha Prabho of Swathi Tirunal in brindavanasaranga by P. Uday Sankar and anandatandavam presented by him along with Keertipriya filled the second half.

The cynosure of the evening was Bhamaakalapam by Keertipriya, which left an impression of being an instant transliteration of the multifarious hues of emotions embedded in the compositions affectingly into dance vocabulary with professional finesse.

Nattuvangam by Chetana, Bharani's wife, mridangam by P.R.C. Sarma, scintillating vocals by DSV. Sastry, flute by Murali and veena by Sudhakar and, last but not the least, violin by M. Neeladri Rao, aesthetically poetic compeering by Dr. Perala Balamurali, make-up and costume by Surabhi Raghuram (VJA) and local artiste Kurmarao contributed to the grandeur.

The guests of honour, Chairman of AP Tech. Services Ltd., K. Prasada Reddy and MD, CMR Shopping Mall, M.V. Ramana, felicitated the guru on behalf of the pupils of the Academy.
