Vivid themes were staged for the 54th Inter-departmental competitions in drama and music.

Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Cultural Association has been holding many cultural programs and drama competition for the last 60 years. Last week, they conducted 54th Inter-departmental competitions in drama and music that were held at Ravindra. Drama director R.K.Haranathababu gave out the rules and regulations of the competitions.
Law Department employees came out with a play Gunapatham, written by Kavuri Satyanarayana and directed by M. Satyanarayana. The subject concentrated on the contemporary scene, after a new law introduced on domestic violence. How this kind of internal quarrels in a household can be resolved is the issue that the play dealt with. It is the story of young couple and the wife is always on the receiving end of her egoist husband. He literally tortures her. How he learns his lesson concludes the show.
The second play was Repenti staged by the department of legislature team.It was humour-based drama, written by veteran playwright Diwakarbabu. N.T.P.Srinivas directed the production. The play is a satire on how the politicians organise shows. The third play was Tamasoma Jyothirgamaya, presented by Department of Municipal Administration employees. K.V.V.S. Appa Rao wrote the play and P.V.K. Basavayya directed it. The fourth production was Danagiri was more an adult education play. This was staged by the department of Culture and Tourism and directed by V.Suryanarayana.The subject is about how a sincere man opens the eyes of some of his corrupt colleagues. The final play was Ambothu written by Akella, another veteran and directed by A.B.S.S.Swamy.
On the concluding day, Chatla Sriramulu addressed the gathering and said that the play was a Samahara Kala and the only medium that makes the audience sit and think, besides being entertained.
Film and stage actor, Kota Srinivasa Rao, the chief guest, said that the drama was the mother of cinema, he added. He said that the secretariat had produced quite a number of artistes and playwrights. Both Chatla and Kota latter gave away awards to the outstanding plays and players.
Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya won the best production award and also another four awards, for character roles. While V.P.K Basavayya won second best actor award and best director award. Best playwright was K.V.S. Papa Rao. Best villain was Srikakulam Subba Rao. Lanka Lakshminarayana and Lakshmi of Law department were chosen for best actor and actress awards. Gunapatham was given second best production award. Third best production prize went to Ambothu. A.V.S.Swamy was chosen as best character artiste in the same play. Master Raviteja, who played a role in Rependi, was given best child artiste award. Bhavani won the prize for best humourous role in Danagiri.
There were also competitions in Carnatic classical music, light music, `Cine Sangeetham' and folk. In Carnatic music section P..Subrahmanyam, G.V.Sujatha and S.Kanakadurga won the best first, second and third prizes respectively. In the light music section K.Rajanar, P.C.Sarada, P.Subrahmanyam bagged the first, second and third places.And in Cine Sangeetham S.V. Hari Prasad, Lakhmi Savitri and B.Srinivas were chosen for the three category prizes. There was also competition in folk music. K. Janardan won first prize.
K.Kanakadurga and S.V. Hari Prasad won the second and third prizes respectively.
Jeedigunta Ramachandramurthy and Subbaraya Sarma were the judges of play productions, V.A.Suryakumari and Ch.Raghunatha Rao were judges for music programmes.
