DANCE
Perfect artistry
Now settled in America, a fine exponent of Bharatanatya Indrani Parthasarathy is the daughter-disciple of Guru Radha Sridhar. She has already proved her worth as a dancer of merit. She has also been propagating the art of Bharatanatya at her place. Indrani was agile and her movements were crisp. Her artistry and hold over laya were never at stake. The manner in which she communicated the sathwika was noteworthy. With Pulikeshi (nattuvanga), Srivatsa (vocal), Madhusudan (violin), Narasimhamurthy (flute) and Chandrasekhar (mridanga) played their roles well. Indrani gave out her best in the varna, Nrittopaharam. The theme revolving around Krishna set to Athana "Ninne neranamminaanura". Gajendra moksha, Kalinga mardana, Kamsa mardana, Rukmini Kalyana et al in sancharees bore the stamp of her artistry. She was at home in enacting a Bhadrachala Ramadasa's krithi "Nannu brovamani cheppave".
*****
The artiste-couple D.S. Srivatsa and Sowndarya Srivatsa once again proved their worth when a captivating dance feature on Saint Thyagaraja conceived and executed by them brought the curtains down on the Rasa Sanje festival.
The tale of the eminent composer Thyagaraja was unfolded on the basis of his own gem-compositions. Srivatsa not only exhibited his musical brilliance in the selection of the krithis but also his fine musical acumen in rendering them. Sowndarya excelled in her dance. The selection of the krithis and their singing by Srivatsa was praiseworthy.
