GIFTED SIBLINGS Ganesh and Kumaresh.
On the last two days of the 14th Anniversary music festival organised by Sri Sadguru Sangeeta Sabha at Sri Sivaramakrishna Kshetram, there were a scholarly vocal concert by senior vidwan Hari Sankara Sastri and a thrilling violin duet by the celebrity duo Ganesh and Kumaresh of Chennai. In the junior concerts Hari Manasa and Kasturi Gopala Rao impressed with their neat recitals. G. Seetarama Lakshmi and K. Anil Kumar provided violin and mridangam support respectively for the junior concert.
Hari Sankarasastri's vocal concert was marked with deep musical scholarship and traditional style. His imaginative manodharmam made the concert gripping. He sang Sri Ganesa in Reetigowla, Anandamritakarshini in Amritavarshini and as the main item Sastri rendered Ninnuvina in Thodi. The exhaustive portrait of the raga and his distinct manodharmam in the kalpana swaras were highly pleasing to the connoisseur. Fine support on violin was provided by B.V. Durga Bhavani and by K.Yogesh of Rajahmundry on the mridangam.
The grand finale of the festival came in the shape of a scintillating violin duet by young celebrities Kumaresh and Ganesh of Chennai. The concert was a sumptuous treat both for the rasika and the layman. It was sweet melody coupled with rhythmic beauties all the way. Starting with a rare Ghnaragamalika varnam Ganesh and Kumaresh went on to play Vatapi (Hamsadhvani), a Syamasastry composition in Anandabhairavi and the main item Durmarga charadhamulaku in Ranjani. The raga was played by the brothers with great ease and competence. The swaras amply showed their amazing laya precision. Patri Satish Kumar gave excellent mridangam support. He was well supported on the ghatam by M. Haribabu.
