Delhi art lovers had a visual feast to remember the other day. This treat came through artist Padmakar Sengupte's spectacular colours in his works themed "Nature". They were mounted at an exhibition at Dhoomimal Art Gallery.
First solo
A graduate from Chitrakala Mahavidyalay, Nagpur, Sengupte started exhibiting his work from 1996, and this was his first solo show in Delhi.
He has been felicitated a number of times. He was also awarded a fellowship by the Government of India in 1998. It is said that more than 90 per cent of his works attracted buyers at this show.
Sengupte's work shows an emotional rebellion.
It is not a mere throng of colours; it is a union with nature. His work celebrates the beauty of nature, and highlights different sides of his subject.
There is a generous use of vibrant colours, like blue depicting an unending ocean and red representing fire.
"Every artist is in love with some colour. I think my first love is blue. It is soothing, yet so dynamic," Sengupte said.
