Contemporary dance show
Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts is presenting Sanchaari, an evening of contemporary dance, choreographed martial arts, live music and visual projections on March 17.
The evening also features the premier of Ayodhanam, a blend of physical prowess, intellect and martial techniques, derived from different styles of Kalarippayattu, the ancient martial art from Kerala.
Presented originally in the UK by Imlata dance company, London, it was called Trans Avatar and choreographed by artistic director Jayachandran Palazhy with Christian Ziegler and others. Attakkalari has now enhanced this presentation for the show in Bangalore. The show has come here after a successful tour with 16 performances at major European festivals including ones at Venice and Frankfurt.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 100. All proceeds of the show will go towards Attakkalari's Education Outreach Programme. Started four years ago, the programme involves trained facilitators at Attakkalari who take classes and workshops for schools, colleges and the community at large in movement arts. Last year they worked with 14 schools in the city including eight government schools and several others run by NGOs.
Tickets are available at Crossword (Residency Road), Alliance Francaise (Vasanthnagar), K.C. Das (St. Marks' Road and Koramangala outlets) and at Attakkalari (Wilson Garden). Limited donor passes priced at Rs. 500 are available at Attakkalari. Seating is free and doors open at 7 p.m. The performance begins at 7.30 p.m at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall.
