Chennai-based Sri Raja Lakshmi Foundation, known for promoting Indian culture, organised Mahalakshmi commemoration last Sunday.
Evocative recitals of devotional music by associate professors of the A.U. department of music, Mandapaka Sarada and A. Anuradha, provided an absorbing start. They rendered kritis of noted Vaggeyakaras and were expertly accompanied on violin by K.V.S. Prasad and eruditely by Mandapaka Nagalakshmi (staffer, M.R. Govt College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram) on mridangam and Bandaru V. Ramanamurty on tabla.
The seventh annual in the series, the function was marked with thought provoking talks on spirituality and social service by Visakha Rotary Governor K. Chayadevi, role of medicos and social organisations by chief neurologist of KGH Dr. K. Venkateswarlu and the role of ancient women that formed an ever extant crux of Indian culture by the former regional manager, The Hindu, Visakhapatnam, T.A. Venkateswaran. On the role of a medico, Venkateswarlu delved into various aspects of making medical science as an art with a human touch instead of being a mere doctrinarian.
The talks, their discerning analysis by the chief guest Prof. A. Prasanna Kumar, knowledgeable summing up by compere Dr. Perala Balamurali Krishna and last but not the least, the Anugrahabhashanam rendered by Sadguru K. Sivananda Murty cast an enlightening spell on the audience.
