Hilarious entertainer

M.L. NARASIMHAM

R.R. Movie Makers' latest production is slated for May release.

PLOT THICKENS Venu, Sangeetha and Shabana Khan in S.V. Krishna Reddy's latest movie.

The courtroom set at Ramanaidu Studios, Nanakramguda came in handy to shoot the pre-climax scene for R.R. Movie Makers' Production No.5, written and directed by S.V. Krishna Reddy for producer Venkat. Art director J.P. made a few alterations to give an authentic touch to a family court room to the existing dιcor. Presenter K. Achi Reddy and co-producer V. Suresh Reddy positioned themselves at a distance watching the shoot. The camera unit guided by cinematographer Jawahar Reddy is busy positioning the reflectors and lights and an assistant checks the light.

The shoot commences. Lead actors Venu and Sangeetha stand in the witness box. Kota Srinivasa Rao and Sunil are in lawyer's robes. The former argues for Venu and the later defends Sangeetha as the Judge (played by Giribabu) listens to the lawyers and the arguments that follow. The performers being all seasoned actors the scene required not more than a couple of retakes before the director said, `Okay.'

"It is like any other real life divorce case scene with the arguments as per the court procedures but the difference lies in the dialogue. They evoke laughter at the same time drive home the point. Venu plays an honest cop. He is just married to Sangeetha, who is quite a contrast to him. When the others are taking bribes to lead a luxurious life why not he, she asks him on the first day of their marriage. Differences crop up and finally they end up in the family court, in between lot of interesting incidents happen generating humour," explains the director who also wrote the story and screenplay besides scoring the music. Shabana Khan, a model from Mumbai plays the second heroine.

"From start to finish it is a hilarious entertainer. Even the songs narrate the story and are not placed just for the sake of it. I am using a different format to picturise all the five songs unlike the way we see them in regular films," reveals Reddy. The actors assemble at the shooting arena. Jawahar Reddy sitting on a baby crane with array flex monitors the lighting arrangement. Giribabu has to deliver the judgment in this block. One of the assistant directors came with the clapboard on which the scene and shot numbers are written for editing purpose. Camera whirrs past the clapboard and the assistant director withdraws from the scene. The camera then pans on Giribabu, moves to show the anxious faces of the lead pair and then rotates to show the lawyers and the crowd in the gallery. It returns to Giribabu as he delivers his dialogue.

"Summer time is best for comedies," opines Krishna Reddy. "So we are releasing the film in May. The entire family can watch and enjoy the film. By the way we haven't announced the title as yet. We plan to advertise the story concept and invite the title from the audience. The best and apt one wins a reward."
