Playwright honoured
Sahridaya Sahithi, last week, honoured noted writer-poet Chitrakavi Atreya in the premises of Public Library. Chitrakavi Singanacharya Atreya who was born in 1933 in Gudur has written books such as Vakulabharana Nayaki, Bharathi Naa Ammanni and Dikchakram, Manasu- Manishi poetic translation of Tiruppavai and Tiruppavai Poodanda and biography of Pravachana siromani Sriman Sribhashyam Appalacharyaswamy.
A scion of the family of the author of kavyas like Bilvaneeyam , he obtained M.A. degree and a few post-graduate diplomas in management and worked with the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He then worked with B.H.P.V. in managerial cadre till he retired.
Religious and spiritual in attitude, he has been known for his service to many temples as a member of their management committees and also has been in demand for his erudite discourses on subjects like Tiruppavai, all over the South.
The function had the president of the Sahithi and noted writer-poet L.R. Swamy in the chair, while founder president of VMDA, C.S.N. Raju was the guest of honour.
Many literary scholars spoke on the various aspects of the published works of Atreya.
