Stargazing
Another remake
Remakes seem to be the order of the day. `Madurai Veeran' is one such. The title, same as an early MGR film, isn't a historical as the name suggests. It is a Tamil version of the Telugu social drama `Noove Naenu' in which Uday Kiran played hero. `Jiththan' Ramesh and Saloni make the lead pair. Ramesh made a reasonably impressive debut with the Vincent Selva directed film, `Jiththan,' but the films that followed didn't help his career much. The hero and filmmaker come together once again for `Madurai Veeran.' Gana Ulaganathan's number that goes `Yadhava Theru' is expected to be a highlight. "The song will be as great a hit as his `Vaala Meenukkum _' in `Chithiram Paesuthadi,'" says Selva.
Sundar C's second
Sundar C. listened to nearly 40 stories before he signed `Veeraapu.' Being directed by Badri, the film is a remake of the Malayalam super hit, `Spatikam.' This will be Sundar C.'s second venture as hero after `Thalainagaram.' The debut attempt did well but the director turned actor showed no hurry in signing his next as hero. Sundar's erstwhile assistant Badri, is the director of `Veeraapu,' which has Gopika as its heroine. Incidentally, Badri is the director of `Malargal,' the mega serial on Sun TV.
Making a mark
Arpudhan who made films such as `Arpudham,' and `Manadhodu Mazhaikaalam,' has now come out with a 30-minute short titled, `En Peyar Enna?' Ten-year old Kishore Kumar plays the main role of a rag picker, an orphan who yearns to go to school. The significant feature of the film is that it has no dialogue. Impressed with Kishore Kumar's portrayal, Bala has given him a role in `Naan Kadavul.' The child actor will also be seen in Shakti Chidambaram's `Vyabaari.'
All set
JJ Good Films' `Ninaithu Ninaithu Paarthaen,' starring Vikranth has been in the making for quite a while. Heroine Ashita is from Delhi. And according to insiders she is one of the causes for the delay in the completion of the film. Written and directed by Manikandan, an associate of Selvaraghavan, the film is now gearing up for release. With a storyline that deals with a family that comes down from Pakistan for treatment for their ailing child, `Ninaithu _' could well prove to be a different attempt.
