We are looking for mothers who can balance the home front and office ... who have innate talents, ... and have an adventure spirit in them
HUNT FOR `SUPERMOM': `Vanitha Ratnam' has 15 finalists vying for the crown.
It is a programme with a difference. A mix of both reality and stage show, this programme is not in search of a singer, instead, `Vanitha Ratnam' is a hunt for a `supermom.'
A first of its kind, `Vanitha Ratnam' is on the look out for mothers who handle both motherhood and womanhood well.
"We are looking for mothers who can balance the home front and office (if working), who have innate talents, be it poetry writing, singing, dancing or acting, and are adventurous," says Bindu Sajan, producer of the show.
After an all-Kerala audition, 15 finalists have been selected from close to 4,000 contestants. While the judges selected the 15 finalists, the viewers will be voting for their favourite `mom' through SMS in the finals.
Stage performers
"We had participants from all walks of life. The selection by our judges, Murali Menon, Rohini and Poornima Indrajith, were based on the contestants' confidence, conversation skills and display of talents," says Bindu who admits they favoured contestants who had stage skills.
"As the finals will have participants mostly dancing, singing and acting, we did choose contestants who had such skills," says Bindu.
And so you have participants like Reena Mazhan, Seema Saiju and Hera in the final stage. A former teacher, Reena is an excellent dancer and athlete. "Reena is on the plump side. One never expected her to dance so well or run so fast," says Bindu.
Seema is multi-talented. A mother of a one-year-old, she is by profession a choreographer. She can, however, handle the paintbrush well and is a black belt holder in Karate.
Coming from a traditional Brahmin family, Hera is busy preparing for her MD and has hidden literary talents. Living in a joint family, she has the whole family, especially the elders rooting for her.
"But it's not all just a talent hunt; it is also a test on how they handle crisis, relationships, finance et all. Hidden cameras will catch their reactions to certain situations. A brief of the contestants' life will be shown," says Bindu.
The finalists will be given a grooming session. "Yoga, stress management, personality development... " On Amrita television, the programme will hit the mini-screen on April 7.
