Need for more plays

World Theatre Day was celebrated recently.

World Theatre Day celebrations were held for two days at V.H. Grandhalayam Hall by two organisations. The Rangasthala Kalakarula Ikya Vedika organised a function on March 26. The International Theatre Institute in Paris observes World Theatre Day on March 27 this day every year worldwide. Eminent theatre artistes gather at one venue to discuss issues concerning theatre . Each year, the institute also invites an eminent stage artiste to share his message to theatre artistes all over the world. This year it was the turn of veteran stage actor from the United Arab Republic, Dr. Sultan-bin-Alkhasri.

On March 26, veteran stage actor Machineni Venkateswara Rao was felicitated by Ikya Kala Vedika. Noted film and stage actor Mikkilineni Radhakrishna Murthy stressed the importance of theatre. Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu, an ace actor of mythological dramas, Ambati Madhumohanakrishna, M.C. Das, P. Panduraga Rao, B. Venkata Rao, director of Vijayawada Doordarshan, addressed the gathering.

The following day, Abhiruchi, a cultural association in the city, celebrated the event at the same venue in a fitting manner. Veteran journalist Vuyyuru Nageswara Rao was felicitated. Actor Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu, in his speech, stated that stage actors when united could do wonders. M.C. Das read out the message delivered by Dr. Sultan-bin-Alkhasri.
