Senior artistes demonstrated the traditional way of singing Hindustani classical music while performing at Sri Kala Subba Rao Vedika on March 30. It was a treat to hear such a good Hindustani vocal recital. after a long span.
Music lovers' association along with the Thyagaraja Gana sabha organised the vocal recital of Satish Kashikar, a senior artiste from the city.
Satish Kashikar began his concert with raag Purva Dhanasree, a melodious evening raag in Vilambit, ek Taal and sang drut in teen Taal with a composition Payaliya Jhankar. His vilambit, true to tradition was elaborate, well sung and aptly supported by another senior artiste Govinda Rao on the harmonium. Govind Rao is an accomplished vocalist and hence could give excellent support on the harmonium.
Mixed array
Young and talented Anand Patwari on the tabla showed his proficiency on the percussion instrument, while accompanying Satish Kashikar. Des was the second raag of the evening for the bandish titled Dekho re dekho shyam. He followed it with a tarana in the same raag set to teen taal.
Soulful ragas
Pasupathi girija pathi and Piya sang ke more, two well composed songs in Basant, were the highlights of the concert. Satish Kashikar sang both these compositions with great ease and both the accompanying artistes backed him with perfect balance. He concluded the concert with raag Bhairavi.
