Stargazing

MALATHI RANGARAJAN

Ganapathy's `Gaja'

Director R.Ganapathy who made a successful debut in Telugu with Usha Kiron Movies' `Priyanesthama,' now enters Tamil with `Gaja.' VNR (a Parthiban look-alike) is the hero and Akshaya (of `Kalaba Kadhalan' fame), the heroine. "With a powerful a message that glorifies womanhood, `Gaja' is bound to go down well with women," says a confident Ganapathy. Ask him about the music of `Gaja' and he is all praise for its composer Mani Sharma. "Generally Sharma never accepts small projects, but he was so impressed with the story that he readily agreed. The remix of the popular MGR number, `Thottuvida... ,' sung by A.V.Ramanan, will be another highlight," says Ganapathy.

Actors to tour

`Arpudha Theevu' is releasing on April14, to coincide with the holiday season. It has secured a straight Censor certi- fication for its Tamil and Telugu versions, you hear, because though the original is Malayalam, nearly the entire film has been re-shot. The innumerable vertically challenged actors in the film will visit theatres where `Arpudha Theevu' is released, and meet the public. An interesting ploy to draw adults and children all over the State, to the cinema halls

Excited about `Nepali'

`Nepali' is all set to take off with fanfare. A big-budget project from the makers of `ABCD,' the film has hero Bharat appearing in three different get-ups _ for one he will be putting on 18 kg and for another he will lose 16! Shooting begins in Ooty in a few days from now. `Nepali's director is `Mugavari' Durai, whose films are generally different from the routine.

Wit & levity

Listening to Satyaraj is a pleasure. He makes everything sound so easy and manageable. It was a similar feeling you got when you watched him recently on Gowthami's `Anbudan' programme on Sun TV. Even when actor-director Rajkapoor, who was with him on the show, detailed the difficulty Satyaraj had to face for make-up and costume for a scene in `Vambu Sandai' that required him to act as a Kathakali artist, Satyaraj made light of it. "Yeah! A relaxed posture was impossible. Otherwise it was ok," he laughed.
