The three-day fete showcased commendable acting prowess.



STAGE FETE Vivid themes marked the theatre festival.

Thanks to the liberal increase in the financial assistance offered by business magnate and ardent lover of social drama, the three-day fete of competitions in staging of play-lets by noted associations invited from a few centres of marked theatre activity in the State, held in Kalabharati last year for the first time, could be extended by another day this time.

Named as Kalabharati A.S. Raja Naatakotsavam the fete was inaugurated on April 3.Satyagrahi, presented with élan first on the penultimate evening,was a thoughtful and thought provoking script by Gandham Nagaraju and directed by K. Suresh who also donned the lead role for Rangayatra-Guntur. Overall, the production turned out to be a paragon of exemplary showcase of talent by all actors individually and as a team, stagecraft, make-up and music. Paradoxically it ended up getting prizes Best Supporting Actor for V. Sivaprasad and Best Anti-hero for Ravindrababu in the team.

Similarly, comparable presentations of Hananayaagam, scripted by B.V. Rama Rao and adroitly directed by Amarendra for Adarsha Yuvabharati Hyderabad and Maanavatvaniki Marokonam of the doyen among playwrights Kasiviswanadh also had to go satisfied with Best Character Actor award for Amarendra and Best Actor Award for S.A. Ramamurty respectively in the two above plays.

Thallikshaminchu, with a focus on the inherent amity between the people of India and Pakistan, scripted by Veera Pothana and directed by G.R. Mohana Rao for Creators Palakollu bagged the Best Production award of Rs. 5,000 besides Best Script Award and Jury Award for the child artiste P. Rishyendra. Ekaaki Nouka Chappudu of Aravinda Arts, Tadepalli (GTR) bagged the Second Best Production award of Rs.3,000 besides best music director (T. Sambasiva Rao), Best Comedian (Gangotri Sai) and Best Actress (Ramadevi) awards.

Jo Atchuthananda, script by Sk. Hussain and directed by Y. Haribabu for Kalalaya of Kolakalur (GTR) was a message to all mothers to also inculcate love for the mother land by way of adding lines of patriotic fervour in the lullabies sung to make their babies go to sleep, achieved the third Best Production award of Rs.2,000 besides Best Stage Décor (Prabhudas).

The play Ato Ito Anthenaa, script by Y.Sai Baba and directed by M. Prasada Murty for Kalavani (Rajahmundry) bagged the Best Director and Best Make-up (Bharani) awards. Punahjanma scripted by J.S. Rajasekhar and directed by P.Balaji Naik for Chaitanya Kalasravanthi of Visakha Ukkunagaram was the only play that had to go empty handed.
