In memory of a vocalist

Late vocalist Tadepalli Vijayalakshmi was remembered on her anniversary.

Tadepalli Vijayalakshmi, who worked as a music lecturer in the Montessori Educational Institutions, Vijayawada, was very popular as a singer for Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi performances. She specialised in this branch of singing and had given vocal support to hundreds of dance dramas and solo dances all over the country. Her sudden demise six years ago left a void in this field of dance in this part of the State. In her memory, her husband T. Venkateswara Rao established a Trust and observes her death anniversary by arranging cultural programmes.
This year, the Trust, along with `SARASA', another cultural Association, organised competitions in Annamacharya Keertanas in the morning session on April 8.
In the evening's function which took place at Seetarama Kalyana Mandapam, speakers G.Vijayasri Gupta, P.S. Rao, P.A. Raman, Asthana Vidwan of Kalahasthi Devasthanam, K. Suryanarayana and others reminiscenced Vijayalakshmi's expertise in singing for dances.
The Tadepalli Vijayalakshmi Charitable Trust honoured on the occasion, noted singers Pappu Sadasiva Sastri and K. Suryanarayana.
The meeting was preceded by a brief vocal concert by Pappu Sadasiva Sastri who rendered Annamacharya keertanas in ragas Dharmavathi, Kalyani, Sivaranjani, Mukhari, Mayamalavagowla and Anandabhairavi.
He was well supported on violin and mridangam by G. Srinivasa Murthy and I. Anjaneya Sastri respectively. The meeting was followed by an impressive Harikatha ganam on Sai Baba by Kota Sriramachandra Murthy.
