Musical rendezvous

This musical `samaroh' had people from all walks of life taking to the stage.



ON STAGE At the samaroh

A three-day instrumental music festival was organised by theMusic Lovers Association along with Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha recently. Nearly 12 sitarists and 10 tabla artistes participated in this festival. The samaroh was inaugurated by renowned sitar artisteG.V.Sreeramulu.Master Ajay Singh started off the first day's programme with raag yanam set to teen taal. He was accompanied on tabla by another child artiste, Master K.Sriram. Next, Sudarsana Sengupta from Kolkattaplayed yanam with jod and jala set to teen taal, followed by a group recital by students of Saint Bhaktha Ramadasa College of Music and Dance, Secunderabad. On the second day, the Instead of Jaideep Singh, Vijay Kumar, one of the disciples of Basheer Ahmed Khan, played raag malkauns set to teen taal. He was accompanied on tabla by Gajendra Shiwalkar. . J. Aswni Kumar, a legal practitioner of High Court of Andhra Pradesh, played raag vachaspathi, drut gath set to teen taal.

Jaikishan excellently rendered his role on the tabla. Finally Dr. Sanjay Kingi, one of the accomplished sitarits, played Shanmukha Priya, vilambit in 5 1/ 4 beat, Madhya laya in teen taal and Drut and Jhala in ek taal. He concluded his recital with the Dhun in raag bhairavi. Harjit Singh excellently performed on tabla.

Ragodai means introduction of morning raagas, a special programme for music lovers and the third day was devoted to this.Kamalabhai Toshiwal, a housewife, played gujri todi, aalap, jhod and jaala set to teen taal.
