Music fest

Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Carnataka Sangeetha Seva Trust is celebrating the jayanthi of Carnatic music Trinity with a music festival at Tiruvarur, from April 19 (Syama Sastry's jayanthi) to April 24 (Tyagaraja's jayanthi). Chairman K.K.Thennan will preside and Cleveland V.V.Sundaram will inaugurate. T.V.Chari, station director (retd.), AIR and TV, will felicitate and N. Kamakoti, executive director, City Union Bank Ltd., Kumbakonam, will honour S.P. Viswalingam for his services. Vedic pujas will be conducted with Ambujam Vedantham and Saranathan singing in chorus. Leading musicians will participate on all six days and sing at Sri Dikshitar Mandapam.

Repair work is on at Dikshitar Mandapam and Syama Sastrigal house is also under renovation. Contributions are invited in the name of the trust, which may be sent to: V. Balasubramanian, No.50-A/102-1, Durgalaya Road, Tiruvarur.

Parayanam

SHI-BA Fine Arts Academy has organised Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam on April 14 (Tamil New Year day), 5 p.m. onwards, at 59/70, Tirumangalam Road, Villivakkam.

Rama Navami

Sathguru Sath Sangam and Rajaji Nagar Welfare Association are jointly celebrating Sri Rama Navami at Ganga Street, Rajaji Nagar, Villivakkam for 10 days from April 14-23.

Vasanthotsavam

Sri Oppiliappan Pattabisheka Ramar Temple, Ram Nagar (North), Puzhudivakkam, will celebrate Vasnathotsavam on April 15, when the deity will arrive at Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakar Pravachana Mandapam, Hindu Colony, Nanganallur at 10 a.m. Special Tirumanjanam will be performed at 12 noon and Tirukkalyana Utsavam will take place at 3 p.m. For details, contact: 2231 5498/98410 81254.

Acharyas' Mahotsavam

The Kaushik Gurukul Education Foundation, Nanganallur, is celebrating the Sanatana Dharma Acharyas Mahotsavam (Adi Sankara, Ramanuja and Madhvacharya Jayanthi) from April 14-22 at Pravachana Mandapam, Sri Siddhi Vinayakar Temple, Hindu Colony, Nanganallur. Panchanga Padalam

On Tamil New Year's day (April 14), Panchanga Padalam will take place at the Mahalakshmi temple, Besant Nagar at 8 a.m. after Viswaroopa darisanam of the deity (7 a.m.).

Film music

Indian Whistlers' Association has organised a programme of whistle music of Tamil film songs at Lion Edifice Hall, D.G.Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam on April 15, 6.30 p.m.

Easter Concert

The Handel Manuel Chorus is presenting sacred music at the St. George's Cathedral, Opp. Drive-in Woodlands, Cathedral Road on April 15, 6 p.m. Damayanthi Santwan will be at the piano and music will be conducted by Sharada Schaffter.
