Subbudu's style
It is indeed true, as mentioned by writer Leela Venkataraman in her tribute (`His knowledge gave him the courage,' April 13), that the late Subbudu's pen invaded areas where others would not venture.
No one questions Subbudu's fearlessness or knowledge. But then it was his fearlessness that goaded him into writing against anyone, however popular the artist may be, without any restraint. This trait made him overlook certain details, say for instance the raga, which the reader would look forward to in a review.
Subbudu just mentioned one or two kritis sung in a concert and packed the write-up with his own comments. There was nothing by which the reader could enrich his knowledge.
