A matter of pride and joy
The Akashvani Audition Board last week awarded top grade to M. Srinivasa Narasimha Murty (violin vidwan), V.V. Ramana Murty (staff artiste of AIR, Visakhapatnam) and G. Durga Rao (asthana vidwan of Simhachala Devasthanam). It was a matter of pride and joy not only for the artistes, but also for lovers and connoisseurs of music, especially those who knew the artiste from the days when they were child prodigies performing for sabhas and winning prizes at various competitions.
While M.S.N. Murty was trained by Sangeetha Sahitya Kalanidhi Sriman N.Ch. Krishnamacharyulu at Vijayawada, V.V. Ramana Murty had the privilege of being a prime disciple of his father, mridangam maestro Vankayala Narasimham. Durga Rao after initial training by vidwan Korrapati Basavayya, honed his skills under stalwart laya masters M. Kanna Rao and T.A. Kalia Murty. Being `A' grade artistes of AIR, they enviably have become names to reckon with those who get featured by choice in Akashvani and Doordarshan national and zonal hook-up programmes including jugalbandis and prestigious Sangeetha Sabhas in the country.
