MOVING THOUGHTS A scene from the play
Komali Kala Samithi of Nalgonda was invited to stage their playlet Sarihaddu (Border) at Ravindra Bharati, last week by Srikalaniketan to mark its 42nd anniversary celebrations, which alsocoincided with the Telugu Theatre Day.
The play leaves a message that a mother's love, either of the one who gave birth to the child or of the one who brought him up latter, remains the same. There is no dividing border between the loves showered by them. Bhavani Prasad wrote this play with this theme as base. Govada Venkat Rao directed. The main role of Annapoornamma was played by Padma Priya who lived the role.
During the Partition days in 1947 a four year old Hindu boy, Ramu gets adopted by a Pakistani couple, who name himImran Khan. After growing up and then learning who his real mother is and where she lives, Ramu gets back to India and finds her. Their reunion was a scene of thrill and joy. . He wants to stay back with his mother. But the latter won't accept saying that the love of the woman who brought him up all these years is equally great. The foster mother would suffer the same way she suffered all through these years, after she lost him. Annapoornamma, his real mother, finally succeeds in convincing him and sends him back to his foster parents.
The dialogue between mother and son was quite moving. Writer Govada Venkat Rao himself played the role of Imran. In other roles were M.L. Narasimha Rao, L.K. Lekhananda Swamy, Ramapathi, and G.L. Kumar. T. Venkateswarlu and others.
Couple honoured
This year the `Jagruthi Kala Niketan Award' instituted by Srikalaniketan was presented to G.S.R.K. Sastry. Sastry is more known to theatre and film world as Gunturu Sastry. The award carried a cash presentation of Rs.5, 116 and a citation.
