A vocal recital that thrilled the hearts.

K. Vageesh
Kalabharathi witnessed a scintillating vocal rectal by K. Vageesh in the company of M.S.N. Murty on violin, VV Ramana Murty on mridangam and Mandapaka Ravi of Vizianagaram on kanjira.
Vageesh who is Trichy AIR station director got off to a tunefully grand start with the Todi Varnam followed by Pranamamyaham Sreeprananaadham in the oudhava vakra shadhava ragam Ranjani and concluded it with exciting swaram. His choice next was a composition of Purandaradasa in the pentatonic scale Suddhadhanyasi which he adorned with evocative neravu and swaram. Rendering of Evarani Nirnayinchirira (Devamruthavarshini of Thyagaraja) turned out to be a welcome feature as it was the only kriti with which the audience was familiar thus far. Then followed a composition of his own in the pentatonic scale Rasikaranjani having Suddha Rishabham in place of the sharp Ri in Mohana. Rendering ragam, tanam and pallavi in Todi in Khandajathi Triputa talam replete with scholarly and resplendent exercises of grahabhedam in aalapana and gathibhedam in swarakalpana next, he sang his way into the hearts of all alike in the auditorium.
M.S.N. Murty on violin and Ramanamurty on mridangam along with Ravi on kanjira proved to be his peers in all aspects of showcasing of talent and with their delightful concern for aesthetics while following and in their turns (aalapana neravu and swaram on violin and erudite thani on mridangam and kanjira with reposeful exercises on gathi and yathi respectively) contributed splendour.
