Reaching for the stars

SCREEN TEST on Asianet Plus, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 21.30.

Talent hunts seem to be the buzzword in many Malayalam channels as they compete with each other to come up with all kinds of new talent hunts. The search for singers seems to have become saturated and so now we have game shows to identify the best dancer, mimic, mother et al.

Now Asianet has come up with a talent hunt for actors called, what else, `Screen Test.' The preliminary rounds to select the participants will be conducted at Asianet Studio in Ernakulam.

Those who get to participate in the four elimination rounds will be groomed by professionals who will give them tips to enhance their histrionic abilities.

The first round will see the contestants showcase their talent - singing, dancing... This is to help the judges test the versatility of the wannabe actors and to asses how such skills could be an asset in their career as an actor.

Participants in the second round will have to choose and present a piece of dialogue out of three dialogues given to them.

Grand finale

The third phase will have five boys and five girls who have been shortlisted for the grand finale. The contestants will have to perform individually and in a group. They will have to enact different characters, situations and so on.

The 10 participants will be divided into two teams in the last round. A short film would be given to each of the teams and they would have to decide the cast and act in the film too. The participants will get a chance to go thorough the various processes of filmmaking such as scripting, shooting, dubbing, editing and so on. After the screening of their films, each team member would have to explain to the jury his or her character, interpretation of the role and the method of presentation.

The grand finale would have the 10 finalists perform on stage. The jury would be headed by director Roshan Andrews.

To see how a star is born, tune into Asianet Plus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 21.30.
