Vaishnavi Sainath

Krishna Gana Sabha award

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai, recently awarded the Rukmini Devi Arundale endownment prize to Vaishnavi Sainath, daughter of Rajeswari Sainath, for her merit worthy performance in the Pongal Dance Festival held in January 2007. The prize will be distributed on the inaugural day of the 52nd art and Pongal Dance Festival on December 12 2007. She will be setting her feet to perform in the U.S. and Canada during the second half of this year.

World music concert

Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad in collaboration with the department of culture and the French Embassy in India present a world music concert by Regis Gizavo and David Mirandon from Madagascar and France at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Public Garden on Saturday April 28 at 7. 30 pm.

The two have done many albums together, notable amongst them being Marabi Productions - Harmonia Mundi 2007, Samy Olombelo Label Bleu- Indigo 2000 and Mikea Label Bleu -Indigo 1997. Visit http://regisgizavo.calabashmusic.com for details on Regis.

Honour for Sonal

Dance exponent, Sonal Mansingh, was conferred Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by G.B. Pant University, Uttarakhand on April 21, at Pant Nagar. The doctorate actually is one of the many accolades that the dancer has received in the past few months including Hanuman Samman earlier this month.

The award was conferred at the Hanumath Jayanti celebrations held at the ashram of Saint Moraro Bapu, Mahua.

Sonal Mansingh is also the recipient of Kalidas Samman given by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to an eminent artist.
