Bhajan classes

Navavarna puja

On the occasion of Chitra Pournami, Brahmasri K.Dinakar Sarma of Kumbakonam will perform navavarna puja at Sri Rathnagiriswarar temple on May 1 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, will visit Sri Rathnagiriswarar temple on November 29, 9 a.m. A discourse on Bhaja Govindam and Vivekachoodamani will be rendered by the Kanchi seer. This lecture is the concluding part of a week-long series.

Samprokshanam

The Ashtabandana Maha Kumbabhishekam for the separate niches of deities Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Padmavathi, Garudazhwar and Bhakta Anjaneyar will be performed on April 29 between 7.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. The venue is Navasakthi Vinayakar temple, III Street, Bharata Ratna Rajeev Nagar, Pudur, Ambattur. The deity will be taken out in procession at 8 p.m.

Discourse

Hamsadhwani has organised a musical discourse on `Valmiki Ramayanam' to be rendered in five parts by Madurai T.N.Seshagopalan, from April 30 to May 4, at Youth Hostel, II Avenue, Adyar.

Music programme

Youth Association for Cultural Development, Prashanti, 10, 5th Street, Gopalapuram, (Ph: 2811 3697/92831 47543) has organised a music programme, Chennaiyil Tamizh Isai, to be held on April 29 at Mylapore Fine Arts Club. The programme, which is the third in the series, `Eppadi Paadinaro,' will feature a vocal recital by Neyveli R. Santhanagopalan.

Urs held

The 60th Urs of Qutubul Akhtab Hazrath Hafiz Syed Habeeb Mohamed Hasan Moulana Khadiri Baghdadi (Rah) was held at the Dargah premises in Linghi Chetty Street (Mannady, Chennai) on April 23. H. Habibullah Shah, Sajjada Nasheen and Muthavalli of the Dargah led the night-long prayers. The anniversary celebrations of the Sufi saint started with zikhir majlis , followed by maulood and nath (in italics).

The sandal paste was anointed on the grave of the Sufi saint, who happens to be the 31st descendant of Prophet Mohammed (Sal) and the 19th descendant of Hazrath Syed Abdul Khader Jeelani, the patron saint of Baghdad. The Chief Kazi to the Government of Tamil Nadu, Mufti Salahuddin Mohammed Ayub, was present on the occasion while Master Habib Mohammed Tahir Bijli was among those who offered oral recitations.
