Temple renovation
The temple in a dilapidated state.
Legend has it that Lord Venkatachalapathi, on his way to Sri Rangam, passed through Tiruchitrakootam and Maduranthakanallur in Chidambaram.
A temple for Sri Venkatesa Perumal was built in Maduranthakanallur.
An inscription of Ranga Rayar states Kuriamangalam, Maduranthakanallur and Odayur were dedicated to protect the Thillai Govindarajaswami temple at Chidambaram.
Saint Ramanuja is said to have visited this temple before going to Tirumala hills.
The ancient temple is almost in a dilapidated condition, requiring renovation. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment board of Tamil Nadu has accorded permission to carry out the renovation work at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs.
The plan includes rebuilding the Perumal temple sanctum sanctorum, vimanam, Thayar sannidhi, Garudar sannidhi, bali peetam, Anjaneyar sannidhi, kitchen, parapet wall, entrance, gopuravasal, prakaram, electrification and samprokshanam.
Contributions may be made in the form of materials also.
