Back to school

S.R.ASHOK KUMAR

Five persons from different walks of life look back on their school days.

REWIND: Pallikkoodam

Resourceful Thankar Bachan has donned the grease paint, once again. In Viswas Films's Pallikkoodam that he is directing. He was in the company of Naren, Sneha, Shreya, Seeman at ARS Garden in the city's outskirts when one caught up with him.

The film is almost over, according to him. "It will take the viewers to their school days and make them wonder about their contribution to the school," said Bachan hinting at the plot.

Based on novels

He has written the story, screenplay and dialogue. He is the cinematographer too. Generally, all my films are based on novels — `Azhagi' is ``Kalvetu," `Sollamarantha Kathai' is ``Thalaikizh Vikithangal" and now `Pallikkoodam' is ``Kalavadia Pozhudhugal" (stolen moments). I do not write stories for cinema. What I observe becomes literature and later it gets translated on celluloid. The next one is also a novel and it is `Onbadhu Rubai Notu.' "

"You can call it a period film. It touches on incidents that happen in 1978, 83, 91 and 2004. All the artistes have worked in a remarkable way. Young Naren, especially, has abundant talent. He appears as district collector while Seeman is a filmmaker. I am a labourer on daily wages, Sneha is a teacher and Shreya is a midwife. They all have studied in the same school. They look back and wonder if they have given back anything to their school," elaborated Bachan whose first venture in acting was `Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy.'

The film features another director — V. Sekar.

It is an important film for Naren. "I accept few assignments. Number doesn't matter and I don't want to get stereotyped. `Pallikkoodam' is sure to be a box-office hit," he said.

``The film has a gripping story line and my role is sure to make an impact," said Shreya.

Bharadwaj has scored the music while art is done by JK. Satesh has done the editing.
