INAUGURAL FILM: `The Namesake.'
The FILCA film festival is back. Starting May 4, the festival will showcase a wide range of movies at Kalabhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. Mira Nair's `The Namesake' will kick off the fete.
`Tributes' is dedicated to the late P. Bhaskaran (`Rarichan Enna Pauran') Padmini (Nokkethadoorathu Kannum Nattu) and Sri Vidya(`Daivathinte Vikrithikal').
Catch the latest Mollywood movies such as `Ekantham' and `Thakarachenda' in `Malayalam Cinema Now.'
Watch the masters of Iranian cinema at its best with Mohd. Ahmadi's `Poet of the Wastes' and Pouran Derakshandeh's `Wet Dreams, Love without Boundaries' to name a few.
World Cinema Today features Costa Gravas' `Le Couperet,' and Frank Coraci's `Click.'
Kukunoor's `Dor,' Homi Adjani's `Being Cyrus' and Milan Luthria's `Taxi 9211' are some of the movies that will be screened in the Contemporary Indian Cinema section. `Retro' concentrates on the works of Ingrid Bergman. Czechoslovakia is the country in focus for the festival. Documentaries are also a part of the festival. Delegate passes (Rs. 150 for one pass) will be available at a FILCA counter at Kalabhavan. The festival ends on May 13 with `Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest.'
